French colonial coffee met Vietnam’s metal phin filter and sweet condensed milk, which was practical where fresh dairy was scarce. The result became a national everyday ritual.

    Set phin

    Add coffee to a phin filter over a glass containing condensed milk.

    Bloom and drip

    Bloom with a little hot water, then fill the filter and let it drip slowly.

    Ice

    Stir the coffee and condensed milk together, then pour over a glass of ice.
