Espresso + milk
Flat white
A velvety, coffee-forward milk drink with thin glossy microfoam.
Where it came from
Australia and New Zealand
1980s
Both Australia and New Zealand claim it. The most believable history is that it developed across their café scenes as a smaller, silkier answer to the large latte.
